Story behind the song
This song was inspired while reading Psalm 139. I had an error in an earlier version and God used an old book, The Christian’s Secret of a Happy Life, by Hannah Whittal Smith, to bring this to my attention.
Lyrics
Marvelous are Your Works (from Psalm 139) Verse 1 Where shall I run from your spirit? Where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend into heaven, you are there, If I make my bed in hell, you are there, If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there your hand shall lead me. REFRAIN I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made, Marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows right well. Verse 2 My substance was not hid from you, when I was made in secret, Your eyes did see my substance, imperfect, In your book all my members were written, when as yet there was none of them, How precious are your thoughts of me, How great is the sum of them. REFRAIN Verse 3 Lord, you have searched me, and known me, You are acquainted with my ways, There’s not a word in my mouth, you don’t know, You know when I sit and I stand, You compassed my path, Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, I cannot attain it.
