Story behind the song
This is my entry for Renoise's Beat Battle V - the first time I've entered this competition. Originally I was thinking of making this track into a sort of narrative, telling the story of a shipwreck during a storm, but the competition rules got in the way of that by demanding that all VSTis be rendered into samples and then by limiting the file size to 5MB. Anyway, instead the idea behind this track is a post-shipwreck scene, with a sailor clinging to a bit of wreckage and gradually weakening until he lets go and drowns. The accordion is a bit of a surreal touch I think - like this dying seaman is going to a place where all good sailors go: a place full of fine grog, cheap whores and raucous sea-shanties.... yaaaarrgghhh Jim lad!
