Story behind the song
I was influenced by the depressing themes of a lot of indie and punk bands, such as Interpol, Joy Division, and my personal favorite, The Common Men. The main character, for some unknown reason, is stranded in the middle of the ocean, and gives up hope of being saved, so he decides to drown himself instead.
Lyrics
On the horizon Under the sea The sun has washed my face With tragedy I have been floating For endless days My body, blue and soaking The saline haze Hearing echoes in the deep Water rising And I am drowning in my tears I am lost beneath the waves There is no hope left to save me I am lost beneath the waves I now let go slow Tumble in spirals Without a sound I feel my limping body Sink to the ground Struggle in water I gasp for air I cry for miracles But none appear Hearing echoes in the deep Water rising And I am drowning in my tears I am lost beneath the waves There is no hope left to save me I am lost beneath the waves Here I let go of life BRIDGE: I watch the skies open for me A ray of heaven shines on me As I let my spirit go I am lost beneath the waves There is no hope left to save me I am lost beneath the waves Here I let go of life
