Lyrics
I go to sleep one night it was gettin real late
Tryin to escape the stress around me when awake
Contemplatin life, is it real or is it fake
Oh well, my dreams are comin, so I lie and I wait
Tired of the hate, it wont find me in my bed
here I can be free from all the sh** thats bein said
This is my only escape, when alone in my dreams
So I close my eyes, now im floatin down a stream
Its peaceful and calm, I wonder where it leads
I finally come to the shore, as I pass through all the reeds
I see a DJ, spinnin records on the shore
He looks familiar, but im sure Ive never seen him before
I climb the bank, walk up and I approach him
His spinnin had me in a trance , like drinkin a potion
Without stopping he looks at me and he asks me my name
He says its a pleasure to meet me, & I answer the same
he spits a lil rhyme, then asks me if Im able
I say yea as he throws another record on the table
Thats great he says words arent a gift we should waste
I agreed, and then he told me I would like this place
I cruise through my life, without makin a pit stop
Im from Maryland, but live in the land of hip-hop
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I ask him where I am and he answers me in rhyme
This place is a place, that is finer than fine
This place is called hip-hop, I hope you stay for some time
Oh I got your name, but I never gave you mine
My name is Iz, cuz thats exactly who I am
It is what it Iz, now whats up my man?
I told him bout my stress, and how im glad I could escape it
He said hip-hop was different, & that Id never have to face it
In Hip-Hop, color dont matter, if youre black or youre white,
We all got love for the music, does color matter to a mic?
I said, Naw Ima like it here, how long can I stay?
he smiled and said you can come back here everyday
I said great, I think I wanna stay here forever,
He said wait, lets not take such serious measures.
I know its hard where youre from, & lifes full of issues
But itll be ok, as long as you take me with you.
What do you mean I said.. if I leave ill regret it
No, he said just hold Hip-Hop close and never forget it
I promised I would, dapped him up, then walked to the stream
He shouted never forget hip-hop, and hold onto your dreams
I stepped in the stream, woke up, It was still that night
So I got up out my bed and I started to write.
--------------------------------------------------------------
I cruise through my life, without makin a pit stop
Im from Maryland, but live in the land of hip-hop
------------------------------------------------------------
Everyday, I think about Iz and everything he said
So as I go through my day, hip-hops livin in my head
I try to ignore the hatas, thats what IZ would do
I just think about the music, & that gets me through
The joy it brings, to both the audience and artist
My mics red light reminds me, thats where my heart is
So im tryin my hardest, to make music for the fans
Even when a lot of em dont even try to understand
The beauty of the music, or all of the reasons I do this
Really its bull sh** , but I try to ignore their excuses
Why they hate on my art, or even the genre itself
I get pissed off, but then I remember Iz and it helps
As long as hes with me, and I remember that place
Ill be able to overcome any adversity I face
I remember how I felt, as I rolled down that stream
And apply it to life, because life is but a dream
