Sheltered lives in a world of chains and cages
A spark of humanity glows in her eyes
Just outside her front door the battle yet rages
Snakes breathe fire from darkened skies
Oppression is a common word these days
Powers fighting to possess her soul
Deliverance promises from so far away
Tyrant’s palace down in a spider hole
Oh promises, yes freedom, she voted today
Maybe the first time she breathed free air
Looking far beyond every word they say
Maybe soon she might live way up there
Ink colors new hopes and outlawed dreams
A quiet reality for her children soon?
She’s heard it might be closer than it seems
When smoke no longer clouds the moon
One burning question yet lingers within her mind
What happens when the soldiers are gone
After so many years of living as if she were blind
Can her country’s people walk the road alone?
