Lyrics
Coffee, Cigarettes and Rest (Birds Only Sing…) Only vagrants walk streets like these, too early for those with real lives and chores, too late for those trying to escape, some rat missed this hour in the race. Birds only sing in this city when there’s no one there to hear them. The icy wind cuts through my sweatshop-thin attire as someone's booze fueled anecdote lingers in last night's air. Only the sound of the rain on the pavement reminds me that I'm still awake, sad songs and endless thoughts of endless wrongs might sleep me sane until sunrise. Char-lunged and wooden-legged I stumble on and on and on and on and on. I only came out for coffee and cigarettes, I just wish I could go home and get some rest. I wrote this song a while ago, its one of the first of my songs that isn't about a specific incident. Normally I get really angry so I get drunk then write a song about me getting drunk. This time I just recalled things that I'd done in the past and wrote about it. This kinda thing happens to me often enough. The title is a reference to the film Coffee and Cigarettes but it is also observational, I'm always walking to the Albert Road Kwikki-Mart at some god forsaken hour because I've ran out of coffee, cigarettes, or other such necessities!
