Starts slow, give it time, it builds to a pretty high-energy tune.

Story behind the song
I wrote this song in 1993 shortly before the dissolution of my band "Delusion". I was experimenting with alternate tunings on my acoustic, a la Michael Hedges, when the verse and chorus came to me. The bass player in my band came up with the bass line, and a local drummer I jammed with gave me the ideas for the backing drums. I recorded this on a Tascam 424 cassette recorder, so the quality isn't great but it's certainly passable. The rhythm guitar was a 12-string acoustic (don't recall the make) and a Charvel 6-string acoustic recorded in the bathtub with one direct mic and one ambient. An Alesis HR-16 was used for the drums, took about two weeks to program fully with all the accents to sound as authentic as possible. The electric guitar used was a Carvin DC145, running through a rack using Rocktron preamp and Intellifex processor, ADA MicroTube power amp, and a Carvin 4x12 speaker cabinet miced with a Shure SM58. The backwards solo was fun to do, I still love how it cranks into the forwards solo halfway through. I did the two vocal tracks, though I wouldn't be my first choice as a singer.
Lyrics
I once was just like you, didn't know my wrong from right
Yes I was once just like you, with myself I'd always fight
'Till I was lost - found - lost - found, again
Same story with a different day
Get trapped in the web of your mind
The more you struggle the harder it is to get away
(bridge)
Same story with a different day
Listen closely to what I have to say
Same story with a different day
Monotony is a costly price to pay
No one said anything, no one seemed to care
Get wrapped up in your petty lives, you've all got your own cross to bear
Contemplate your thoughts, lookin' deep inside your mind
Take some time searchin' through your soul
Are you scared of what you might find
(bridge repeat)
(chorus)
Listen closely to what I have to say
Monotony is a costly price to pay
Don't throw the best years of your life away
On the same story with a different day
(solo)
(repeat chorus)
