Peace of Mind
I looked in the arms of lovers,
But it wasn’t there to find;
I traveled the round world over
Searching for peace of mind.
It wasn’t there in a bottle
Of pills or the reddest wine;
Not in money nor in pleasure
Could I find peace of mind.
Walking in a world of troubles,
Lost in the winds of time,
Just looking for peace of mind.
Not applause of a million people –
Nor acclaim of all mankind
Brought with it lasting treasure,
And not a moment of peace of mind.
In books of a thousand pages,
In lofty words of the wise,
In blessings of all the sages,
I could not find peace of mind.
In my deepest heart it lay hidden;
What no other could supply -
The elusive peace of mind.
