They scratch, they dance, they scat, they bump. They wax philosophical, subversive, surreal, and comical all on the same canvas. They are jazz, hip-hop, r&b,

Reano, LA..XPress “DJ Monkey explores the connection and the common ground between jazz-backed beat poetry and hip-hop.” - NOHOLA “Innovative and definitely something to talk about combines stylish social lyrics, beatnik funk, jazz, a twist of R&B, and a slap of rap all rolled into one. “ - Keith "KC" Clifton, www.newartistshowcase.com

Story behind the song
"Mick and I were rebelling against straight publishers' music. Both of us have always been fans of the Beatniks. I was driving along in my car on the way to our little home based studio and found myself chanting this weird hypnotic riff "I wannabe a beatnik". I instantly new that my robotic vocal character would break through the radio airwaves, as stupid as I sounded to myself. It was a relief to escapr from the serious poetry we were writing up till then." Joey Alkes
