Story behind the song
this song is about my life and how un-hip-hop it seems and yet how I think everything can be hip hop. I'm just me and I'm still hip hop.
Lyrics
Percussion and Bomb Threats [verse 1] Shut your mouth clown, its grown folks rapping Keep it down clown, but keep them toes tapping Its time to quit acting, start being true I aint a teenager, I’m a thirty year old dude So I care more about my wife then about paying dues I care more about my family then about my crew I aint got a necklace, I pay a mortgage I drive a used car but my lawn is gorgeous I’m not into clubs, I’m not into drugs I’m not into pimps, and I’m scared of thugs I want my daughters to be safe and secure I want my church to be faithful and pure I don’t want diamonds, I want better credit If I need a good deal, then I hope that I get it If any book is good then I hope that I read it And if its about justice then I hope that I said it [chorus] I already been in love and been heartbroken I already quit so, why start smoking I heard that punch line, why are you joking I got fifteen notebooks that all been wrote in I want to talk about topics and some are complex Precepts of wisdom, and theological concepts On next, is a discussion of percussion And bomb threats [verse 2] I don’t know about rims, I know about car seats Diapers, formula, bottles and allstar’s beats ‘cause I’m still hip hop just in grown up form That leaves me confused and for sure enough torn Between having the hottest and keeping it warm I choose the gas bill over fashion and form I choose the car note over diamond earrings I work for food, try to live without fearing And I sit with my girls when their eyes are tearing I want to be self sufficient and still be endearing This rap is my diary, my personal journal I want to worship, to praise the God eternal I don’t buy designer, I pay a light bill I change diapers, tuck my girl’s in at night still Put my wife still, ahead of perfecting the mic skill Life kills, I need to focus on Christ’s will [chorus] I already been in love and been heartbroken I already quit so, why start smoking I heard that punch line, why are you joking I got fifteen notebooks that all been wrote in I want to talk about topics and some are complex Precepts of wisdom, and theological concepts On next, is a discussion of percussion And bomb threats [verse 3] I stand for the working man, whose works with his hands Working his plan, steady working his land For certain I am, for the pastor who studies the word For the little man and his voice being heard I’m for the mother’s for the respect they deserve Preserve the family, by teaching their kids And I’m for Sunday school for reaching these kids I’m for the preacher who’s preaching to his For making a comeback after getting kicked in the teeth And I’m for the soldiers and for praying for peace I’m for the deejays juggling them beats I’m for the country kids and the kids in the streets I’m for the hustler, quitting for a real job I’m for the believer, trusting in the real God I’m for staying married for better or for worse And I’m for your family every Sunday in church [chorus] I already been in love and been heartbroken I already quit so, why start smoking I heard that punch line, why are you joking I got fifteen notebooks that all been wrote in I want to talk about topics and some are complex Precepts of wisdom, and theological concepts On next, is a discussion of percussion And bomb threats
