Hi there! I'm a songwriter of country songs. Though some of my stuff barely fits the general perception of that label.

Story behind the song
It's always hard to explain inspiration, but I suppose somewhere in there is that film with Robert Mitchum - "Night of the Hunter" - I think it is called. Plus my fanatical hatred of fanaticism ;-)
Lyrics
Chapter and Verse He'd come by talking about paradise, In his worn out cardboard shoes. With the Bible tucked underneath one arm, My Momma found him hard to refuse. There was something special in his manner, As he began to sermonize. He would quote Chapter and Verse, Cold conviction in his eyes. What became of you preacher man? Did your glory train ever arrive? Did a chariot of fire descend for you, At the end of your long life? I used to watch him watch my Mother, Who hung on every word he said. Then one day I finished my paper round early, Came home to find them both in bed. CHORUS - INSTRUMENTAL - CHORUS It must be twenty years since I last saw him, But last night on my T.V. I saw a young terrorist fanatic, With those same eyes - staring out at me. CHORUS What becomes of all the preacher men, Dressed in their moral disguise? Sharing death as a sure conviction. Half believing in their lies. Death as a sure conviction, Hiding the devil in their eyes.
