With Brutal Beats along with a gritty bass-line, 'MetroLife 21' comes with a hard urban edge. Also, New York style piano phrases as well as robotic 'walkie talkie' effects, are included in the mix.

Story behind the song
MetroLife 21 is only the second track I've made which involves no direct sequencer automation to any synth or effect module. Apart from a toggle switch on the ReDrum, Into the Abyss... (in the 'Dance FX 21' band) was the first such track. Such automation is either done through the Matrix (curve mode), or the Combinator control interface.
Also common the both tracks is the fact that every synth module is a Combinator into which all the effects are incorporated. However, MetroLife 21 goes one further as each Synth Combinator has its own sub mastering suite. This normally includes: 4 band EQ, Stereo Imager, Compressor, plus input / output Spectrum Analysers. With this system, the rack is much easier to manage.
Regarding the track itself, the theme has quite a downtown USA feel to it, especially with the New York piano plus the background saw synth with its distinctive swing effect. Also, many of the beats are quite brutal in nature, while the bass-line is rather loud and gritty, which gives the mix its hard urban edge. With this in mind, I guess the track could easily fit into the Techno genre.
Last, but not least, the Robot synth uses a simple NN-19 voice sample from the Reason Sound Bank. However, an LFO on the oscillator, with a high pass filter modulated by its envelope parameters, give the sample it's "walkie talkie" effect in the mix.
With all of the above said, I hope you enjoy the mix!
