"It's been 20 years or more and it'll be 20 more before he gives it up. 'Cause it's not what he does no more, it's what he is and he loves and he lives it up." Country Music Hall of Fame That about says it.

Story behind the song
I wrote the first half of this when I was a kid...the second half of it when I was a much older kid. It's just about the dreams of musicians.
Lyrics
He sits out on the front porch, dreams his dreams and reads his music magazines. And he sees himself on every page, standin' on a stage and playin' as he sings. He plays at all the local shows and everywhere he goes they tell him that he's great. And all his friends agree that he could make the Grand Old Opry with a little break. And he thinks that would be heaven, if I could make the big time, Oh, I'd never be the same, if I could make that Country Music Hall of Fame. Wearing fancy clothes and smoking imported cigars, I'd have a home in Nashville if I was a country star, and all my dreams come true and I would be a house-hold name, If I could make that country music hall of fame. Now, it's been 20 years or more, and it'll be 20 more before he gives it up. Cause it's not what he does no more, it's what he is and what he loves and he lives it up. And he thinks that soon he'll write a tune and it'll be a hit, surely then he'll be a star. So each night he's in the spot light playing songs he wrote and strummin' on his old guitar. Whatever it takes to be a country star. Chorus
