rap was okay for a little while yet
but once gangster rap came in
poetry was under attack
had to fight back and that is where
we’re at now
still looking back for the ancestors of
poetry
activists and freedom fighters
some how 2 generations lost connection
maybe some fake assed poets made up
the weakest links
after that, poetry laid low and rap music stinks
with keeping it gangsta
poetic props got chopped in body shops giving
birth to hummers
delete keys erase the last 20 years
and spare time for a poetic reservation that drown
in the spit of a gangster’s nation
we look back at the birth of a word’s worth for a new port
to connect to
ftp wasn't around in the old days
through the new portal, we sling rope to give hope to
poetry to cope for hanging off the fringe ain’t dope
it’s like having the biggest stress hanging off your necklace
to bling and words will once again rock a shine to a blind
man so bright he will see
I am looking at this positively that poetry will make a come back that is stronger than ever
and we may even hear more of the old rap before the
crap that buried us in a hole that was 6 feet deep
they made one mistake
there was no foot stomping on earth in belief of that take over
poetry laid restless in the grave looking for a peep hole
just a little light at the end of the tunnel where we funnel
our funky scent back into the new world for the birth of
a New Word Order
taking over making for a verbal slaughter and we stomp
as we recite our words for we know our worth
and the world can’t take eyes off the port of entry
for there is a traffic jam of backed up messages
20 years stifled coming at you like a rifle
and we’ll never stop
