Great Big Yam is all about the picnics and harvests. Rural music from rural people.
Great Big Yam is a collective and individual effort to preserve traditional American music and create songs within that tradition. From the traveling blues to the banjo breakdown to the jigs and reels native to Ireland to the African roots to folk protest songs.

Story behind the song
The 1983 Coupe de Ville with red leather interior was the finest piece of automotive art I've had the privilege of knowing. The engine was crap, though. Nothing in this world is perfect. Except maybe Wymore, Nebraska.
Lyrics
It's nearing about a foot of snow in the lowlands where the deer jump and it's only been a month since the harvest. The cars are on a slippery slope, the rear wheel drive does 540 on the ice, trying to make it home in my Coupe de Ville. O, subtle though you are, Beatrice. O, subtle though you are. The diner's on an empty street, it's good food, so it says on the marquee just atop the shrines this side of Marysville. And if the snow keeps coming down we just might have to stop there sixty miles from home in my Coupe de Ville. O, subtle though you are, Beatrice. O, subtle though you are. O, subtle though you are, Beatrice. O, subtle though you are. If I ever make it home I'll send a letter through the ponies. If I ever make it home I might telephone, I don't know just how things got to this point, but can we ever know?
