The God spoke to me from the machine I raised my head, as if in a dream His words shake my soul Night closes in, as I lay wide-awake The meaning was clear from all he said As time goes by I’d find wisdom bled The universe empty, cold and dead I’d find nothing to hold, to share I’d find nothing to cherish anywhere No breath of life or mist of dawn Troubles gone, not a thing forlorn Entropy ceased, no life diseased Chemical reacted, vacuum increased Temperature decreased to utter peace I’d see blindness, hear the deaf Feel no breeze disturb no leaf Nature’s One Way Don’t go back Our time machine Is right on track Don’t look back Æons ago it was just the same Nothing is All, it runs the game You think of all this as substance Where nothing led to its existence Taking a second and much less Nothing becomes All – Hah, I’m impressed! Perception limited by being whole When it’s nothing more than is in a hole Nature’s One Way Don’t turn back Keep your machine Right on track The God in the box, this is what he said: “Just watch me, never fear, I’ll always be here” But it’s a lie, it makes me cry To see so many so alive Yet starving so deep inside No happiness within, taken from them by the divine And yet everything could be fine Could be fine Nature’s One Way Don’t turn back Keep your machine Right on track Don’t look back Don’t look back Don’t look back Reproduced by permission ©2003 Copyright Kingdon Wright All Rights Reserved
