As I sit in this valley I slowly realize how far I have gone in the wrong direction. This irreversible fate has sent me spiraling down over rocks and cacti, broken and bruised, coming to rest in an oasis between the rough points. However ahead is not a mountain, but a cliff. There is no other path. This is where it has to end. Sifting out the precious drops of water between the sand, I become suddenly aware of a light in the distance. A star has appeared in the night sky, slowly rising, a lighthouse in the tempest of my thoughts. I feel myself standing up and following its progress across the ink like ether with my twin blue eyes. Eyes that used to be bright with innocence, now dulled and grayed with the trials I endured. It fills me with hope, and I find myself walking back down the path I came, back to confront the cruel suburban dwellers and fight through all the way around the world the other direction, to come to rest back at my village. It would be an even more triumphant re entry. I start to walk faster, with a springier gait, suddenly breaking into a jog, then a run. I am coming fellow humans! We will be saved! Suddenly, I see the light turn around and come rapidly towards me. It is a plane, not a star. And it begins to unload its hateful cargo of bombs all around me. The path I came from is blasted to shreds, and the heat forces me back and back. Soon I am at the edge of the cliff, the star's weapons chasing me all the way. With a wretched cry of anguish, I cast myself in the only direction I can, over the cliff, and into oblivion.
