This song is about George Grosz, a member of the Dadaist group of artists in berlin in the 1920's. His drawings were biting critiques of the rise of Nazism. His nickname was the 'saddest man in europe', a term used by his fellow artists.

This album is my first solo effort. I wrote all the songs, words and music and performed them all with a drummer and a couple of other musicians. I play a lot of the instruments on the album. Its an eclectic mix of songs with various moods. I have shown my poetic side with most of the songs, as I consider myself a wordsmith. Since releasing this debut CD I have formed a band which is much harder edged. I will let you hear more of that project when i have some tracks to release.

Story behind the song
As a painter myself I have written or co written many songs about artists. George grosz is a particular favorite of mine. When i found that he was referred to as the saddest man in europe, I immediately had to write this song.
Lyrics
The Saddest Man in Europe Well he knows How it goes A man disguised in civilian clothes He’s a mirror He reflects All the things That he suspects to be Between insanity and madness His caustic lines And visual rhymes Record the face Of tumultuous times The crippled limbs And petty sins The decadence of a cat that grins Behind the twisted Mind of madness I don’t believe You could ever feel the sadness Of the Saddest Man in Europe Saddest man Saddest man The prostitutes and profiteers Snarl on the pages His pen has drawn A thousand tears Depictions of our fears What we get We deserve Acerbic wit That touches a nerve He can see Where we are blind The evil stare Of the mask of humankind Behind insanity and madness I don’t believe You could ever feel the sadness Of the Saddest Man in Europe
