Story behind the song
This tune was named "Departure" for two reasons. First, it was a bit of a departure from my normal Metal-type stuff....My first tune that was really based around some more exotic sounding scales. Second, it was the last tune that I submitted on Guitar War, before moving to MI...so I was "departing" from my old location...blah blah blah...hah hah, funny funny. LOL Anyway, it kinda became known as my "Snake Charmer on Crack" tune, because of the warped sounding intro bit with the octave effect on my guitar, used to try and replicate a Snake Charmer's flute/whistle/whatever it's called. ;-) The 2nd half of the tune takes a sharp turn and goes into what I refer to as my David Chastain segment. I used to listen to lots of Chastain's stuff back in the late 80's early 90's....and for some reason this part of the tune just reminded me of his stuff. This IS an older tune done on my old recording setup, so the sound's a little "off"...but, hey....it is what it is. LOL
