Lyrics
I WISH I’D KEPT WHAT I’D GIVEN AWAY
VERSE
Wagner, Mantle, Mays, DiMaggio
Were they still mine I’d be so rich today!
Baseball cards are worth a lot of dough.
I wish I’d kept what I’d given away.
VERSE
Artwork hung throughout my former home:
Chagall, Van Gogh, Gaugin, Degas, Monet
Out of reach now, like the Sistine dome.
I wish I’d kept what I’d given away.
BRIDGE
I had such grandiose possessions,
Shown in a luminous display,
But when I lost them to Collections
I fell into this dark dismay.
VERSE
Jaguar, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Corvette
They basked in private spots on my driveway.
Driven to relinquish them in debt,
I wish I’d kept what I’d given away.
BRIDGE
My weakness for the pretty lasses
Has led my finances astray.
I wish I’d covered all my assets
Instead of tossing so much hay.
VERSE
Redheads, blondes, brunettes, I loved them all.
They added vibrant colors to my day.
Yet it costs too much to take a fall.
I wish I’d kept what I’d given away.
CODA
I wish I’d kept what I’d given away.
I wish I’d kept what I’d given away.
