Story behind the song
I was looking for the most absurd ways people might get out of a relationship. I started with excuses and ended up with a guy saying his fortune cookie had told him to leave his girl. Seemed funny enough.
Lyrics
VERSE 1 Girl, we’ve been together For a long time. And I know you thought This love would never end. Well, I’m sorry that I have to say Goodbye in such a hasty way But I just found out for myself And my heart is on the mend. CHORUS There was a note in my fortune cookie Said “it’s time to leave.” I guess you’d have to see it for yourself To believe. It said this love is over And it’s time to move along You know about those fortunes Why, they’re hardly ever wrong I wish that I could fight it But I really shouldn’t try. My fortune cookie said goodbye. VERSE 2 Yeah, I know You never saw it coming I’m trying hard To take it in myself. But there comes a time to face the facts And honey I should start to pack And let you go and find somebody else. CHORUS BRIDGE I only stopped in for an eggroll And a little cup of tea. Then I found that cookie Telling me it’s time to leave. CHORUS. Tag ending
