Lyrics
The American Way
(Jim Russ)
I didn’t know people in the Trade Center or the Pentagon
And on the plane in Pennsylvania that went heroically down in a safe place
But I know that I’m connected to them in one way
They all were men, women, fathers and mothers
Children, sisters and brothers of the human race
I can’t understand how anyone could ever make a plan
And carry out so much destruction and loss of life like that
It hurts to see those pictures showing on TV
I’m so sad and mad, how could anyone think of doing anything like that
(Chorus)
But it’s things like this that brings out the best in a lot of us
It’s what made this USA what it is today
Time to lend a hand, do what we can
That’s what we do, it’s the American way
And we’ll get through another American day
Yeah, we’ll get each other through ’cause that’s the American way
People risking their lives looking for signs of life
“It’s my job” says a fireman with blood and dust on his face
All kinds of people volunteering their help anyway they can
They all are men, women, fathers and mothers
Children, sisters and brothers of the human race
So much fear is all around it could happen here
We know that now but we’ll try not to let it stop us living our way
The day will come when those responsible can no longer run
And who supports them will know that when you do that, your gonna pay
Yeah we’re gonna show them that when you do that, you’re gonna pay
(Chorus)
