Story behind the song

Broken Wing was composed in 1999 on an Atari STE running Cubase V2(1988) and a Roland MC303 Groovebox and recorded onto minidisc.  I have very slightly remastered it with some multiband compression.

The Groovebox has a 14-voice polyphony so I was limited to 14 sounds at the same time (stereo instruments used 2 voices) and had to watch this limit closely.  Towards the end of the track and at the 5:36 mark in partcular you can hear the 14-note polyphony cut out as I hit this limit.  The only 2 effects available were reverb and chorus, so I had to make midi echoes which used up a lot of the 14 notes at the same time.  No compression, eq or other effects were available to me back then.

This was one of my first attempts at programming breakbeats, though I was still well into my trance.
