Story behind the song
: A young man, deep in the depths of poverty with his family, realizes he has to change his situation. He steps out from his basement apartment into the busy street above where children are playing. He pauses to light his last cigarette as it begins to rain. His sinister demeanor frightens the children and they run away. He turns up his collar to hide his intent and walks briskly towards the city. His thoughts are tearing him apart...one direction is the carefree dreamer who wanted out of poverty...the other the determined young man knowing he cannot change the situation. He searches in his pocket for the paper holding the address of the contract he is to fulfill. At that moment, he remembers to check for the gun he has placed in his back pocket. As he walks briskly towards his new life, he becomes more determined to do what it takes to make his mother's life easier. He goes deeper into his own world while the world around him is moving quickly away from him. He comes to a street corner, eyes his peers, and resents their happiness. After a few moments of thinking about what might have been, he remembers the job in hand. He continues with determination in his step. He knows what must be done. With his heart pounding he approaches the point of no return. The pressure builds for him as he reaches the place of his crime. He questions his decision but knows he must carry it out. He is terrified of the consequences but continues moving towards a new life. He approaches the door of his victim and stands quietly listening for movement on the other side. Soon he hears his victim approaching and pulls the gun out of his back pocket. He tries the door which is open. Once open, he sees the frightened face of his prey, and knows at that moment………………………. there is NO TURNING BACK. Story line by a friend………………
