It was an acoustic song before I brought it to the band I was in at the time. They suggested a reggae feel.
The guitar solo was composed long after when the band had disbanded, when I was playing along with the demo tape. The harmony part came even later.
Lyrics
Down deeper where we're all just superficial fools
Lie the things that we need or else we're ghouls
A hidden face behind the mask
Will not reveal to the wearer of its task
It's left for those of us who only have the courage just to ask
You get on your bike and you go down the street
But you're not really sure who you'll meet
Every stranger looks the same
They're only different when you know the names
Two mothers in the kitchen with their faces grim
They face humiliation but they see it as a friend
They make the bread; they knead the dough
But still there's something that they don't know
They never see that the power lies in all of us to grow.
