PJ Soul His voice likens a black silhouette on a white wall; clear, crisp, fresh, funky, phenomenal. PJ is a 21 year old avant-garde singer whose style cannot be captioned. He is full of muse, of sound, of energy. The talent is boundless. Through song PJ effortlessly guides us with sweet soulful grace. PJ, born Peter Essoka, lived in Aurora, Illinois and Cameroon, West Africa with his family. As a student at Schurz High School, PJ captured the attention of many with his quick wit and dimples and of course his music. The East Side of Chicago ushered this man to undreamed freedoms that only he, the master of his music, could experience. The strong spiritual side of PJ saved what could be a disconnected life. He has fond memories of watching his family perform in the choir at the Rain Forest International Missionary in West Africa. Life in West Africa was distinctively opposite that of life in Chicago, and traveling to and from both places intensified his ideas of what love and happiness is. Consequently, his respect of his parents and love for his sisters do not falter. “We all have issues,“says PJ. His songs speak to those who know what it is to be in love and to feel the pain of heartache. “Can I sing to you?” he asks with his dimpled grin.
