Hi folks. I have added a lot of videos recently. Please take a look!
Hi folks, This site acts as a personal archive of my work. So you'll find my best recordings here as well as some pretty crappy ones. The earliest recordings here were made on simple cassette decks, others were made on mobile phones, some are live recordings made at various gigs over the years, a handful were made in small recording studios, but most of the more recent ones were made at home on a Zoom portable studio, which itself is now rather ancient! If you like a song and want to download it, click on 'Full song info' for that song and you will see the download link. You can also read the lyrics and any background information on the songs that I may have added. All my music is available for free - enjoy :) cheers, Charles

Story behind the song
I went through a period when I was single in London when it seemed impossible to find kindred spirits.... Yes, there was the 'swinging sixties' and all that but the city didn't work for me at first. London can be a tough and lonely place. I did eventually fall in with a nice bunch of people and we shared a rambling old house in Shapherd's Bush for a few years. That's where I wrote this song. This version was recorded at Philo Hayward's studio in Comptche, California in 1982. Marco Angelo McClean plays the rhythm guitar, Butch Kwan plays the bass, Vincent Krueger plays the congas, Lewis Demetri and Mike Wilson play the rest of the percussion, Chris Diurni plays the squirly lead guitar and Rain Equine adds passionate vocal accompaniment. Listen to the live version with Da-Da though for a very different take on this song ... in which Chris Diurni really wails on lead guitar.
Lyrics
You see me in the morning Walking down the street You know I look like any guy Like any guy you meet It isn't so surprising You don't know my name Cause every room's an island here And everyone's insane Oh I'm a strange fish What do the neighbours say? He's such a strange fish Keep your kids away! Uh huh! Late at night it's lonely And the city closes down I climb into my closet And I pull the curtain round All my friends are strangers I guess that's what I like Could it be the things we do That make you so uptight? Oh we're a strange fish What do the neighbours say? They're such strange fish Keep your kids away! Uh huh! I never thought I'd fall so low Or feel so ill at ease Just when I think I'm getting up I'm pushed back on my knees Facing into suicide Searching for a friend Somebody better help me I'm coming to a dead end! I'm such a strange fish What do the neighbours say? He's such a strange fish Keep your kids away Such a strange fish Such a strange fish Such a strange fish Such a strange fish! Strange fish!
