Hi, I'm a songwriter from Cincinnati, OH USA,
Story behind the song
The main riff of the song was just a warm-up I used in open tuning. Co-writer Greg Althammer thought it could be a song, and we came up with this. This is also my first attempt at producing a song with the help of acid loops.
Lyrics
Gotta Get Back
©2003 D.Lenahan/G.Althammer
Momma told me not to walk those tracks
When I was 12 years old.
Lord knows Momma, that's the only way
To get to the fishin' hole.
(chorus)
Gotta get back.
When that whistle blows.
Gotta get back.
Change my dirty clothes.
Gotta get back.
Hide my fishin' pole.
Gotta get back.
Before my momma knows.
Everyday 'bout Five fifteen
That train comes rumblin' past.
If I ain't home when the whistle blows
Momma gonna kick my ass.
(chorus)
Guess the tug of a line is just too much
To keep this old boy in.
Down by the river is the only place
I can feel this young again
(chorus 2)
Gotta get back.
When that whistle blows.
Gotta get back.
Get off my working clothes.
Gotta get back.
Son, grab your fishin' pole.
Gotta get back.
Before your momma knows.
