Story behind the song
I saw a documentary about Jonestown where one person said that Jonestown was great until Jim Jones got there. The last lines of the song are quotes from Jim telling his followers to kill themselves.
Lyrics
Nothing to say. We went away without a commotion. What a sad day. Saying goodbye to faith and devotion. He knew it all along. Love only lasts so long. Saying goodbye to "Dad." He took everything we had. Remember the day. We first arrived in Jonestown Guyana. Happy to say. We were all free of Americana. But then when Jim arrived. Gradually our joy died. (It) became a slave labor camp. For hours we'd hear Jim rant. I'll make you love me. Give me all your money and I'll make you feel guilty. Make you paranoid and rape your wife and for me you will give your life. Then came the day. Congressman Ryan came with a film crew. Some had complained. They told the press the bad stuff that you'd do. We all must die. Hurry, we must die with dignity. Kool Aid's not painful. It's like taking a drink to sleep. That's what death is...it's just sleep.
