A song about being concerned about the same things that God is concerned about.
Solo singersongwriter Christian easy listening or folk music
I am a singer/songwriter in English and Spanish. I write mostly hymns in a fairly conservative style, but with enough melody and rhythm to hopefully be interesting.
Story behind the song
I discovered that a friend was trapped by an ungodly habit. In pondering how much more God was concerned than I, a mortal, was concerned about it, I thought of the phrase "Let my heart be broken for the things that break the heart of God." Later I found out that this phrase was attributed to Bob Pierce of World Vision.
Lyrics
A heathen man is dying,
A hungry child is crying
A despairing soul is sighing,
And it breaks the heart of God.
When Christians are not caring,
God's love they are not sharing
And self-righteous robes they're wearing,
It breaks the heart of God.
Chorus:
Let my heart be broken,
Let my heart be broken
Let my heart be broken
For things that break the heart of God.
When a careless life I'm living,
To the Lord I am not giving,
Jesus waits to be forgiving,
And it breaks the heart of God.
A backsliding Christian sinning,
The bad old life beginning,
When the devil's side is winning,
It breaks the heart of God.
(Chorus)
When you've almost stopped your praying,
From the holy path you're straying,
Jesus' coming is delaying,
And it breaks the heart of God.
When Christians' eyes are sleeping,
Their sins and follies keeping,
Although angel's eyes are weeping,
It breaks the heart of God.
(Chorus)
(Last two verses not on recorded music.)
Man's sorrows and afflictions,
His vices and addictions,
This sinful world's condition,
It breaks the heart of God.
When you can't see men as brothers,
Nor the suffering of poor mothers,
When you just won't think of others,
It breaks the heart of God.
The robbing and the killing,
The blood of young men spilling,
With hate men's hearts are filling,
And it breaks the heart of God.
When men refuse salvation,
Giving self their adoration,
They reject His new creation,
And it breaks the heart of God.
