Story behind the song
This song is inspired by a fatal car crash that ended five young lives. They were high school seniors celebrating their final exam period, about to get started on Real Life. They never made it that far.
I did not know any of them, but I watched the images shot from a helicopter, on an extra news-cast covering the accident. Their car was laying on the side, after rolling over and catching fire.
They had painted a "clan-name" on the side of the old van, in big white letters. They called themselves Hellraisers. They were on their way home from a big party.
Those images really struck something in me. I guess this song celebrates the arrogant attitude towards life, bordering to a feeling of invincibility, that the young ones posess. On the other hand it reminds us that even 18-year old kids can't escape time when it comes. My thoughts goes to the left and loved ones.
