Song about losing a friend

Artist picture
female singer/songwriter/musician from East TN
I am a solo singer/songwriter/musician from an abyssmal black hole of a town called Morristown in East Tennessee. I have played the piano since I was 6 and took up the acoustic guitar in October 2003. I like covering songs but I also write a few myself. I've played on open mic nights in downtown Morristown, The Acoustic Battles at The DownTown, open mics in North Carolina at Blue Mountain Pizza and hopefully some others soon. I have been given alot of support by the other local musicians I am currently a music and Spanish double major at Mars Hill College near Asheville, NC, and am interested in meeting other musicians around the area and possibly playing some open mic nights. I'd like to venture out into the world of gigs but I am on a college student budget and do not own equipment other than my guitar. So for now I'm stuck with open mics and things of the nature unless I can get a gig where amplification and such is provided. I put a lot of time right now into my classical voice stuff and will have a recital coming up in the next 6 months, but hopefully I can get some new acoustic stuff together soon. The songs I have on this page aren't of great sound quality because I record with my mic onto my comp, but it works well enough I suppose. Hope you enjoy.

Story behind the song
On September 7, 2004, my first period teacher informed the class that three students who had graduated two years prior from my school had died in a single car wreck in the early morning. I knew one of the passengers in the vehicle and although we had not been the best of friends our paths had still crossed and my life had been touched in some way or the other by him and his personality. Many of my close friends were like family to him and the impact his death had on them transferred over to me. I know the lyrics are different from my norm and are a bit depressing but I felt I needed to write it.
Lyrics
Too young to die You were only twenty You breathed your last Alone, by the side of the road The news came unexpectedly To us on a rainy, Wednesday morn It happened so suddenly You were there then you were gone Oh All this town’s lies Were in your dying thoughts No time for goodbyes So many things left unsaid And now I look around me At all the people you left behind We mourn for your soul And your lost potential Oh Too young to die You were only twenty
