The beautiful lyrics are by Mrs. Elvina Mabel Hall. The original tune, used in stanzas 1 and 3, is by John T. Grape. The alternate tune, used in stanzas 2 and 4, is from Eurreal Winford Montgomery's Vicksburg Blues.

Story behind the song
This 19th century hymn was composed by two members of a church. The words were composed by Elvina M. Hall and the tune by John T. Grape. They each composed their part unaware of each other's efforts. Mrs Hall showed the lyrics to the pastor, and Mr. Hall showed the music to the pastor, and the pastor recognized a perfect fit. It has since become a popular hymn, and for good reason. Because the melody of Eurreal Wilford Montgomery's Vicksburg blues is such a favorite, it is used for stanzas 2 and in place of Mr. Grape's original tune.
Lyrics
Jesus paid it all Lyrics By Elvina M. Hall Music By John T. Grape Alternate melody Eurreal Winford Montgomery I hear the Savior say, Your strength indeed is small Child of weakness, watch and pray, find in me, your all in all Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow Lord, now indeed I find, Your power, and yours alone Can change the leper's spots and melt the heart of stone Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow For nothing good have I, whereby your grace to claim I'll wash my garments white in the blood of Calvary’s Lamb Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow And when before the throne, I stand in Him complete I’ll lay my trophies down, all down at Jesus’ feet Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow An extra verse not in the hymn book, and not in the mp3: And now complete in Him My robe His righteousness, Close sheltered ’neath His side, I am divinely blest.
