Story behind the song
Ron Denny Guitars/Vocals/Production Written 1983 Recorded 1995 I was comin home from an office party in 1983. Walkin' in a blizzard cause I spent all my money on beer. My dad met me half way as driving conditions were poor. We met together on the Spring Garden Street Bridge in Philly. I'll never forget he was stopped in the middle of the bridge [there was no traffic] His headlights were a beacon so I as headed for the safety of the glow I slipped on the ice landed right on my butt. And so lookin' over my shoulder I saw the ice flow under the bridge. [Dad was upset havin' to leave his warm house to get me he was screamin' all the way home. So it kinda made me reflect a little.] This very bridge was mentioned in a song I wrote earlier titled Bridge Hanger.
Lyrics
Iced In The Light R Denny II (c)1983-1995 lookin' over my shoulder i see the ice flow under the bridge here i seem defeated on a snowy ridge no mountains in the distance no houses made of log just a derelicts region towered in the fog i feel my body's wasted from the summers partying i abused my holiest richness to stand shattered in the wind walk the whited winter in a sadness of the night laughing lifeless slowly leaving little life i guess i'm sorry now man i've fallen into a state without eagerness just wants and needs licking up my fate it's black out and the tinseled dreamer falls farther from the right life am i caused to freeze here and be misled by the light the screaming intenses my sorrow like an iced well excites my thirst drifting back to the beginning this winter seems my worst
