Story behind the song
The original recording is ten fold worse than this edited version.
This is a perfect example of "Garbage in, Garbage out" and if you're a working circuit musician, take the time to make decent recordings of your work.
This is from one of the bands I did NOT do the sound for other than my drum sub-mix. I won't mention names but the guitarist/male singer did. He not only mixed himself and the bassist/female vocals overbearingly to the point that NO drums or keys could be heard live or in the recording, his idea of EQ is to set all 3 bands in every channel to + 6 dB on his Mackie CR-1604. Add to that he had the stage monitors so loud that I couldn't hear my acoustic drums right in front of me nor my monitor mix of myself never mind my electrics.
The result was ridiculous live and recorded. Basically the raw is all him and bass, no keys or drums and so low and low mid heavy I'd have to send a screen shot of the EQ curve and compressor settings for you to believe it.
I've worked many hours just trying to get something listenable out of these tapes (my second week with the band by the way) and have resolved myself to the fact that "good sound" is impossible. Just trying to make each instrument heard is basically all that's possible especially given the aggressive EQ, compression and noise reduction required to even get close.
As a side note you can hear me break a stick during the keyboard solo and have to grab another as I had to play so incredibly hard on this gig I went through a dozen sticks every 2 weeks ($80) and countless heads over the year stint. Yes all my drums were miced and I sent a sub-mix to him. Oh well, for these and other reasons this is one of the few gigs I just had to quit.
