travel eloquence blarney
Artist picture
Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
We never meant to go to Blarney but it was raining so hard that there was little else to do - but at least the rain meant that there was no queue to kiss the Blarney Stone!
Lyrics
Blarney stone GCF CG EmAmEmAmFC FG Some days Ireland is a jewel sparkling in the sun And the very stones ring out in plangent tone But then heavy rain can leave you at a loss to find your fun So I climbed the spiral staircase and I kissed the Blarney stone We strolled across the meadow where the river martin flows Into the blarney river where the castle tower grows Read the stories how the seeds of eloquence are sown So I climbed the spiral staircase and I kissed the Blarney stone FCGC 7 FEmAmG7C GC I didn't plan to do it Didn't even mean to go But the rain was unrelenting And the sea was flecked with foam So we headed north from Cork before wind cut us to the bone I climbed the spiral staircase and I kissed the Blarney stone Some say Jacob had it as his pillow as he watched the angels climb Up to heaven in his dreams the angels roamed And twas brought by Jeremiah all the way from Palestine So I climbed the spiral staircase and I kissed the Blarney stone So has it made a difference, well you can be the judge Are these verses any better than before? If you can with confidence don't prevaricate or fudge But if quantity's the measure you can bet for plenty more You can bet your life that there'll be plenty more FCG
