Story behind the song
*WARNING* If you would rather enjoy this piece of art and have it come to mean something truly unique to you, do not read the backstory. Just as the band “Aerosmith” once criticized the music video industry of robbing fans from having their own visions of imagery associated to a song and supplanting it with some “official” footage, so too can knowing a songs backstory potentially come to rob it of having some special place and meaning for you. Or both can exist. It’s all really subjective. Proceed with understanding. Thank you, V The Official Backstory This is a song about domestic abuse. It seemed to me that my experience was one witnessing trend recurring generation after generation wherein some really pretty girl gets attracted and attached to some really abusive, disrespectful man - and instead of breaking free, they just fade further and further out of their social circles and eventually disappear. Often if you run into them later they have put on a lot of weight, which is the human body’s natural response to trying to not appear attractive to their perceived options. Often there would be scars, burns, physical traces of a pattern of abuse. This wasn't something that happened with nearly everyone, or with half of the people I knew - I'm just saying - it seemed to be something that, at the very least, kept on happening over and over. I've seen several really amazing people let their light get numbed down and dim, and they would hate on themselves about how it was their own fault, they deserved it, they were lucky to have a man at all, and so on. One of these people was my mother. She spent the last years of her life isolate and verbally abused daily, used for money, and with no love from those immediately around her. I regret I was not able to be around for the years leading up to her death. So many people came to her funeral, most I had never met. Nurses from around the world filled the church, people filling me with stories about how she saved their lives, or put them on a path away from ruin, or how her spirit and energy inspired them to overcome their own obstacles, and so on. She would have been at a loss to see how many people actually did care. Those who were around her certainly gave her no reason to have self-esteem or sense she was loved or had value outside of what they took for themselves financially. Saying that will not make me popular. I don't want to be popular with people like that - so this is their problem, not mine. It is what it is, and the truth hurts if it has to - it doesn't seek permission, it doesn't care about feelings, and it can't be changed. Live with it.

Angel's Scorn © 1995 Vagenda. All rights reserved (December 26, 1995) Born in the streets of the city – she cried Though her body was burned, there was an angel inside But she learned it hard, and she learned it well Somewhere was a pedestal from which she fell It never should happen to someone like her ‘Cause she was so pure and she was so kind Now the centre of her painful life Is building up this angel’s scorn. Can You Feel It!!! Can You Feel It!!! Can You Feel It!!! Can You Feel It!!! All because of you What cha , what cha , what cha , what cha high Oh, I could have saved her from this Innocence took the very last train out of town And I don’t fuckin’ blame him ‘Cause innocence got no place around here Her spirit is draining But what’s a girl on her own to do When she depends on the one crucial thing That’s destroying all she so loves Prepare to feel the angel’s scorn Can You Feel It!!! Can You Feel It!!! Can You Feel It!!! Can You Feel It!!! All because of you What cha , what cha , what cha , what cha high Oh, I could have saved her from this I wonder what became of her No one knows what became of her No one cares what became of her I must know what became of her I don’t know how, I don’t know when Come back to me now, just as a friend I need your love, but I don’t know why, let’s make amends, Before we die!
