A tribute to the classic Goffin and King song 'Up On The roof' with an Indian twist. The instrumental is a heavily manipulated sitar sample.

Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
When we are travelling in India we always try to stay in old palaces - and the first thing we do is head for the roof! (As there is very little health and safety paranoia this is usualy easy to do!). The views can be great, but the peace and tranquility are wonderful. The photo here is the one I used for the cover of 'This Precious Moment' taken on the roof of the Lalgahr Palace in Bikaner - a spot we revisited in November 2015.
Lyrics
Starts with the JT UOTR riff Am G C D11 G Em C D7 Sometimes it all gets crazy, amidst the maddening rush G Em C D7 And things start to turn hazy as perspiration starts to rush Bm G C G Am But you know that there’s one certainty, one eternal truth G Em C D G There’ll be peace and great tranquility upon the palace roof You say you like the edge of chaos, and that may well be true But all the same, now and again, you know what you must do You need a space to call your own, a space to stand aloof You’ll find peace and tranquility upon the palace roof F C G Up on the roof you’ll find a place to hide Above things as the sun begins to slide F C F C G Up on the roof where no one knows you’re there F C F C D11 D7 You’ll end the day in bliss without a care So there’s no need to falter, there’s no cause to stress You can take all that may befall, then set your soul at rest When you’re heard all the arguments and go looking for the proof G Em C D Em You’ll find peace and tranquility upon the palace roof G Em C D G There’ll be peace and great tranquility upon the palace roof
