Story behind the song
Pocketful of Change is the final (12th) song in the saga of the Seventeen Cent Croonie. Set inside the Lucky Mart convenience store, folks stop in to spend their Croonies on stuff they don't really need as they listen to the coins jingle in their pockets. Serene. This is the only song of the 12 that does not mention the Croonie by name.
Lyrics
1
Face pressed against the Lucky Mart window,
Choco-Pow Nuggets in view,
Exeter Ames gonna snag him a bag before school.
Nicky the Barber is due any minute for his Happy Chance.
CHORUS:
Love to sing and sway to the sweet refrain
Of a pocketful of change
They say you got it made when you start the day
With a pocketful of change
2
Lavender’s dad is letting her check
For Dream Date’s issue on Spring Romance.
The singer on the cover took another lover from that
new boy band.
Nicky the Barber is just coming in for his Happy Chance.
CHORUS
3
“Two Seventeens, you can keep the change,”
Nicky added a wink and a smile.
“’Cause this is my week, I got a good feeling I’ll be set for awhile.
Two Seventeens ‘cause this is my week for my Happy Chance”
CHORUS
