An instrumental version of the brilliant song by Badfinger
major snagg
Artist picture
Pop/Rock, Psychedelic, Ambient, Rhythm & Blues and beyond.
Major Snagg is the invented name of the 'band' that perform all my own musical creations. (songs and instrumentals). I play guitars, bass, rudimentary keyboards, harmonica, and sing. Melody has always been important to me... lyrics and guitar solos have to say or communicate something. I create musical worlds that I hope that you dear listener, will also want to explore and live in for a few moments...or longer if you feel that way inclined.

Story behind the song
I've always liked this song, in fact I've liked all the songs I've ever heard by Badfinger. Perhaps they were even better than The Beatles at that point in time. Only Paul was writing pop songs at that stage in the Beatles career. George was too taken up with Indian things, John was strung-out on drugs and Ringo; well he was slightly cast adrift and unappreciated ! Badfinger were a great guitar band who should have gone much further, if they hadn't had such bad luck with an unscrupulous manager. Unfortunately their story is a sad one. They were damaged and screwed by the breakdown of the Apple finances. Check it out and weep.
Lyrics
This is an instrumental version because the key is difficult for me to sing it.

Sounds like a fun track Dave. I have to admit, like Morton I've not heard or don't remember hearing much from this band though the name rings a bell. I'd best head over to youtube!

David, Kicking A** and taking names Ham and Evans. Great instrumental job. Energy I think eclipses the original and do I remember them? Really you ask me that? They are in my CD player right now. LOL! This is an excellent cover musically. Guitar tones and Drums are perfect. Listening again to hear drums. Live drums really drive this. Nice bass work as well. a treat for the ears! P.S. The vocal part I actually have a cover of this on my page I did a few years back along with Baby Blue and both surprised me on the vocal range this required. I actually want to redo my vocal on this and Baby Blue I have been playing them more in the last few years and have a little better handle on vocals now than when I recorded them.

I have to admit. one of my favs as well. It's super catchy from the second it starts to the end. I think they were REALLY trying for a Beatles sound and feel, because they ( the producers (Paul/ George?) were attempting to capitalize on the now extinct super band. Many fans were crestfallen to not have a new Beatles album and Badfinger was as close to the fab four as we could get.

Great twang tone David, sounding just like Pete Ham & Joey Molland back together again :)

A blast from the past! These guys used to get their stuff played on UK radio constantly. From what I remember this band were dogged by bad fortune and 2 members committed suicide, so they never got the long-term recognition they deserved. Great to hear this instrumental version, it has maintained the vibe of the original with an extra Major Snagg touch of magic - excellent stuff!

well unlike Morton, I'm old enough to remember Badfinger. I really like your interpretation done instrumentally. the guitar tones certainly are right out of that era. very well done and recorded.

I like your version of this, David. Yeah, they got screwed big time and sad about the suicides of Ham and then Evans. I read somewhere they got there band name from George Harrison who knew a stripper named "Helga Fabdinger" from the Hamburg days. I enjoyed your instro version of this...have you ever heard Jack Jezzro? (plays Beatles instrumentals).

Ha, ha, Morten. Maybe too young to remember the band, but the music was familiar. They still play that song on the radio from time to time. I am old enough to remember Badfinger, for sure. "No matter what" was a big hit for them and a big favourite of mine. David, this is a great job, your version has the same raw energy and power that the original has and it is so well played. A great trip down memory lane! I couldn't sing it either in that key, but I bet Bob could :)
