Story behind the song
This is the 4th song in my narrative about the fictional coin called the Croonie. As the Croonie is removed from circulation, the narrator experiences a mixture of nostalgia, anger, fear, and confusion. He just wants his Croonie back.
Lyrics
1
Shoppin at the shoppin' store, sizing up the ties;
Sat my Croonies on the counter then the lady said “surprise,
Who do you, who do you think is gonna use this?
Nobody’s taking Croonies; that went out with Confucius”.
CHORUS What won’t, what won’t, what won’t my Croonie buy?
2
Their value is out of play, don’t know if we can pay.
We open another store, hoping to make some more.
CHORUS Don’t let, don’t let, don’t let our Croonie die.
3
What the heck, you’re not correct, c’mon, won’t you check?
That one would be perfect ‘cause I must protect my neck.
My currency is current; I’ve always brought it here.
Your facts cannot be accurate; your boss’ll make that clear.
CHORUS What won’t, what won’t, what won’t my Croonie buy?
4
We gave it a better name, product is still the same.
We’re chasing a parachute, golden and silver blue.
CHORUS Don’t let, don’t let, don’t let our Croonie die.
5
I raced around the neighborhood, couldn’t find a place;
My old school money wasn’t funny anyway.
Should’ve been a time-delay, maybe let us have some say.
I suppose I might’ve missed it; they were changing up the business.
CHORUS What won’t, what won’t, what won’t my Croonie buy?
6
Our spending will get us by, praying the rates’ll rise.
Rebounding before the fall, climbing we’ll have it all.
CHORUS Don’t let, don’t let, don’t let our Croonie die.
7
How can they expect that everybody will forget
The jingle jangle pockets full of wet toad sprockets?
A meaning of exchange is nothing if not strange
When it leaves you in the lurch and your head still hurts.
CHORUS What won’t, what won’t, what won’t my Croonie buy?
