Story behind the song
I had a duo band with Frank Alongi called Groove Merchant. I played guitar and bass and sometimes sang lead. Frank played drums and keys and sometimes sang lead. We had various guest musicians such as Terry Linberg on sax, Ken Chan on keyboards (both from my other band at the time, Charivari) and Pascale Goodrich-Black on vocals. The song describes my attitude about how women, and in fact people of both genders, don't always have the "right" to make decisions over their own bodies and futures, whether through legal decisions or through force of other stronger people in a more physical or emotionally controlling way.
