Lyrics
It rained so hard when Joe was born, the tide came up so high Looked out Joe’s back window seen a muskrat floating by When Joe was one he had some fun playing with a rat The next day when he went outside he was chased by ninety cats singing Chorus: Oh, Joe Libbitz, oh don’t you cry for me I come from the swamps behind your house with a rat for you and me. When Joe was two he caught a little of that muskrat flu His mother knew just what to do and made him muskrat stew When Joe was three he fell outa a tree and a muskrat saved his life He thanked the muskrat heartily and gave him his pen knife singing Chorus When Joe was four he asked for more of his mother’s muskrat stew He ate that bowl and said it tastes just like Daddy’s shoe When Joe was five he took a dive in the creek behind the shed And when he came up for some air had a muskrat on his head singing Chorus When Joe was six he did some tricks that made the muskrat mad The muskrats had enough of him and beat him up so bad When Joe was seven he went to heaven and the muskrats danced with glee They danced and sang around the swamp “he ain’t getting’ you or me” Chorus
