Story behind the song
At the time, I felt like my life had really turned around as I had come back to the Catholic Church and had developed a more close knit relationship with God. I had also found myself in a new school, U.M.B.C. I felt like that I had a fresh start and I wanted to reflect on all this in some way. So I imagined a story involving a character, down on his luck, with the worst possible suffering you could imagine. But somehow, before all is lost, God shine's his light on this poor soul and his life is saved. Musically this song is perhaps one of the most expressive and personal songs I have ever written. The whole story is told musically. There are no lyrics. In that sense, a lot of people could perhaps relate to this song in some way emotionally. The original title was, "Hope sheds its light". But I decided that a more appropriate title was "God Sheds His Light".
