Upbeat. Uptempo (moves along at a marathon runner's pace). Fully orchestrated. Probably one of my best songs as far as having unusual and interesting things going on... the heaviest amount starting with verse 3.

Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
Inspired by Hebrews 12:1-2 "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race [marathon, not a sprint. Hence the need for patience.] that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Lyrics
(v.1) With patience we keep on running, keep on looking for his second coming. Taking one step, then another, just like a marathon runner. Setting aside any weights that slow us down in this race. (c.1) When your limbs start to drag, when you want to wave a white flag, Look once more to Jesus Christ who’ll help you keep on running in your marathon. (v.2) Your holy spirit will never tire. It will always be on fire. So keep your heart in the race. Keep yourself moving at a marathon pace. The h.s. God gave you is strong enough. The h.s. God gave you is the right stuff. (c.2) It’s the flesh that wears thin, and tries to make us cave in. So... Look once more to Jesus Christ who’ll help you keep on running in your marathon. (v.3) The Bible can move us on as we read how others ran their marathon. They knew their rest was yet to come so they ran their race till it was done We can be just as strong. We can run just as long. (c.3) The race is on, so stay in. God keeps giving us second wind. Look once more to Jesus Christ who’ll help you keep on running in your marathon. (OTHER RUNNERS: Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, Gideon, Samson, Ruth, Samuel, David, Esther, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Mary, Peter, Paul)
