Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
Every now and again I end up writing downbeat lyrics but I don't suffere from depression, honest guv! The lyrics grow out of the music and that was the way the music developed in this case (I generally find it has a mind of its own). Of course, once you know where its heading you do tend to push it a bit further... But cheer up, there is a positive upbeat chorus!
Lyrics
(Em7 G2) 8 C2 G Em7b5 A11 G2 D Through the window streets are streaked with rain In the grey glow see the colours drain Life in slo-mo passes unawares Feeling so-so like you’re not really there Spent a lifetime blowing in the wind Walk the fine line, trying not to sin To stand alone we pretend But comes a time we all need a friend (C A C D ) 2 Em7 G2 etc Come to your senses, come to your feet Break out from the shadows into the street Come to the party come to the rave Sitting right here you might as well be lying in your grave Instrumental break Sit in silence muffled from the world Fear of violence balled up and curled You don’t need steel bars for a prison to make Life is out there for you to take Come to your senses, come to your feet Break out from the shadows into the street Come to the party come to the rave Sitting right here you might as well be lying in your grave Through the window streets are streaked with rain In the grey glow see the colours drain Nothing to lose now nothing to save Sitting right here you might as well be lying in your grave
