Upbeat, uptempo. Fully orchestrated, but I used less orchestration, to increase clarity of musical parts. (I tend to overload the instrumentation.)

Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
Explained in the opening lyrics. It dawned on me how little of the life with God I had grown into. I had too many lyrics to fit into my 3-minute time limit. So there may be a 'Overdue Changes (part B)' down the road. If not, I included the excess lyrics here, so you may read them if you wish.
Lyrics
v.1 Even after getting born again, I still hung on to too much doubt. Never really "let go & let God", to see how that might turn out. My decades of minimal results, finally clarified That what Christ offered me, I had barely ever tried. (chorus) Okay, Lord. Let's do it your way. I'm ready to live by what You say. First thing I'll change is... my attitude to Your Word. v.2 I've treated it like a self-help book, looking for a witty gem, So I could slug my way through another day, 'til I could make it home again. (bridge) Talk about an under-achiever. Way below par for a believer. v.2 (continue) Your Word, Lord, is the only real home. And daily slugging should have been clue To change the way I face the day change it to a winning walk with You. (chorus) Okay, Lord. Let's do it your way. I'm ready to live by what You say. (spoken) Now here's my new outlook on Your son... v.3 Christ here in the room with me, so close I hear him breathe. I see him as next of kin not some distant relative. Access all the time to him. We're on a first name basis He's so close, we're almost... almost touching faces. (spoken) And here's my new outlook on prayer... v.4 I will assume less, and pray more, Lord. I know that gets You excited. Though You're the boss, You still won't cross certain lines unless You get invited. So here, Lord, is Your invitation, Lord. I will extend it time and again. Every day You'll hear me pray "Lord, come across, come on in". (chorus) Okay, Lord. Let's do it your way. I'm ready to live by what You say. =====Below are excess couplets. If part B gets written, it will have these thoughts.======= v.5 RE: the power/value of the holy spirit in me. Make more use of my holy spirit It's so easy to energize. Let each undertaking that I'm making see how high it flies. v.6 RE: the gospel I'll expand my grasp of the gospel, that it's more than just for myself, That this Word I gratefully heard is also meant for someone else. I'll accept Your son's prime directive that I help publish the good news. Do my part to reach a heart and let that person choose. v.7 RE: financial giving. I'll do some financial giving, get prosperity flowing freely. Avoiding lack. Living 'in the black' in Your promised sufficiency. v.8 RE: Being more thankful. I'll acknowledge/consider each day a gift, and make it early when I do. Not let the day slip away without telling God, "Thank you." FINALE I'll step out of my comfort zone, Lord, where I've stayed safely curled, Out where we, together, can be doing more good for the world. Lord, I respect your wisdom, far above mine, even at my best. You created the intricate heavens, so active, so complex, A universe of planes and trains, on schedule every day. I've seen the light. I know You are right. Let's do it your way.
