Hello Family and Friends, Lisa and I wrote a song in honor of the memory of my dad, Leon Reed. He was a great man and is very much missed by many people. We are pleased with how the recording of the song turned out so we’re sharing it with you. The weekend after my dad passed away, Lisa was playing a chord progression on her piano and I joined in by doing some improvisational stuff on my guitar. After a bit we had the idea to turn it into a song to honor my dad’s life. The main theme and title of the song, “Promoted To Glory,” came from a text message my brother Doug received from his daughter Anna's father in law, Greg Moore, wherein he stated that dad had been “promoted to glory.” At dad’s burial service at Willamette National Cemetery, Pastor Al read from 1 Corinthians 15 which we also used for inspiration for the lyrics. Over the course of the next few weeks we completed the song and decided we should record it in my home studio. We immediately had the idea to have our friend Dave Parker sing it. Dave was one of the main singers in a benefit concert we did at my church last spring. Mom and dad attended the concert and dad particularly very much enjoyed Dave’s country style singing. Dave graciously agreed to sing for us. We asked Dale Bradley play cello. Dale is a professional cello player we have enjoyed listening to and playing with at church over the years. As you can hear, he does a fantastic job. My good buddies Kevin Sundholm and Garrett Johnson also joined in; Kevin on background vocal and Garrett on drums. They too did an outstanding job. Lisa plays piano and I play electric and bass guitars and we both join in on harmony vocals on the bridge of the song. We hope and pray that you are well and that this song is a blessing to you. Lyrics
A life well lived, celebration and tears Greeted in the heavenlies, embraced by the Son New body glorified, untouched by the years Humble hands raised, the victory won Promoted to Glory Forever in His hands Clothed immortal Welcome home, welcome home! The burden of our loss, cannot destroy The hope of heaven, His gift of joy Standing firm upon, love’s sacrifice Assured of tomorrow, forever with Christ Promoted to Glory Forever in His hands Clothed immortal Welcome home, welcome home! Your legacy is hearts that testify, we are better, For your life strong and true blessed us in ways, we cannot measure The Lord’s faithful gift shared through you, we’ll always treasure The destiny we share with our Savior Promoted to Glory Forever in His hands Clothed immortal Welcome home, welcome home! Promoted to Glory Forever in His hands Clothed immortal Welcome home, welcome home Well done, faithful one Enter in, welcome home Welcome home!
