Story behind the song
Written in 1976 during the media obsession with getting The Beatles to perform a reunion concert, this song was especially inspired by the Saturday Night Live bit spoofing the idea of a reunion. The over-the-top expectations for this hoped-for-event fueled my description of the concert.
Lyrics
1
I keep waking up nights, unable to write
Dreaming ‘bout Fixing some Hole.
A vision, a sound, it’s all clear to me now,
No, it’s not a bit like Rubber So-
oul, I never did like Rubber Soul.
The sky’s crackin’ open, the Sun’s sneakin’ through,
There’s a magic, magnificent air.
There’s music and truly sensational news:
The Beatles are gonna be there,
Ho, Here There Everywhere
CHORUS:
The Beatles are Coming Together again,
There’s thunder outside Abbey Road.
The Beatles are Getting much Better, my friend,
Everything’s under (2nd verse---inner) control.
2
There’s no need for a light; it’s already so bright;
Chuck Berry is here for the opening.
Says “why are you folks all so quiet tonight?
Everybody’s here that you’re ho-
ping, everybody’s here that you hope.”
The Turtles come crawlin’ the Byrds are at Wing,
There’s rumor we’ll see Buddy Holly.
The crowd’s gonna get so incredibly big,
What with Lucy and Judy and Mol-
ly, Lucy and Judy and Molly
CHORUS
3
They’re dressed really wild, much too hard to describe;
It’s tough to tell Ringo from George
I can’t even tell if they’re fightin’ inside,
No word has come yet on their tour,
No word has come yet if they’ll tour.
There’s snow and there’s Rain, bridges in flames,
And we know now that they’re gonna crack.
Gimme gold, gimme jade, ‘cause we’re gonna be saved,
The Beatles are gonna come back,
Yeah, The Beatles are gonna come back-back-back-back-back
The Beatles are gonna yeah yeah yeah
There’s thunder outside Abbey Road.
