Uptempo, Upbeat message. Fully orchestrated. There's a subtle DOCTRINAL ERROR between the lines: Our life in final paradise will NOT consist of "doing nothing" as the lyrics seem to suggest. We WILL be busy. But the war will be over.

Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
Heard a local preacher say something to the effect that "We're on a battleship. Not a cruise ship."
Lyrics
I sat back in my deck chair as this luxury liner cruised out to sea. A waiter brought some coconut milk serving others just like me. We’ve all got on our sandals and sunglasses. We think we’ve paid our dues. We’ve fought w/life long enough that we deserve this cruise. But deep inside I don’t buy it ... there’s a nagging doubt. Is this really why we’re here? Is this what life’s all about? Do we just work until we think that we deserve a rest? Is that the Lord’s definition of us giving our best? Is this cruise just an illusion I’ve talked myself into? Is the waiter just a figment of my imagination trying to tell me my work is through? I think of an army on a forced march trying to reach a battle sight. Hut-2-3-4 in the darkness then at sunup, ready to fight. A general will ask that of his troops But would God ask that much of me? Can’t I just serve when I feel like it? Won’t that drive back the enemy? I sigh a sigh, already knowing, it doesn’t work that way. The devil keeps moving forward when there’s no one in his way. And I know where this is going. It’s the Lord working in me To get me out of my chair and on with my ministry. Yet, I get real bold and tell the Lord, “Don’t ask so much of me.” He responds, “Don’t underestimate your ability.” I ask the Lord, “Now is this where You tell me it’s a war?” He responds, “It’s where I tell you what that ship you’re on is for.” “It’s a battleship, not a cruise ship and you’re in enemy waters. “But you are there with my authority to find my sons and daughters. “And once you have found some there is still more to be done. “There’s all the work behind the scenes to make this battleship run.” The Lord seems relentless to have His ship run smooth. So I better get into my uniform and join up with the crew. So off come the sandals & sunglasses. and I put my chair away. I WILL have plenty of use for them... ... just not today.
